Most Democrats 1) think Biden’s done a good job, 2) worry he’d lose to Trump, 3) prefer he not run again, & 4) want the torch to pass to a new generation.
If Phillips is a respectful-of-Biden but forward-looking candidate, he’ll be in sync with most Democrats.

If, as is likely, Biden easily defeats Phillips, it will help Biden in the general or at least not hurt him. Or is Biden so fragile a candidate that he’s endangered by a respectful challenge by a moderate member of Congress (whose main message will be that we have to beat Trump)?
