#greenscreen Robert Gooding, 75, is recovering after a student attacked beat him with a Chromebook inside of Perry Meridian High School. Gooding was working as a substitute teacher through Kelly Educational Services on the day of the attack.

The problem with no accountability is that outside of school when this happens it’s handcuffs or worse- their life. I would sue the absolute shit out of everyone I could if I were the sub.

I tell people all the time that I’m safer as a teacher in a max security prison than working in the Indiana public school system with children. They think I’m crazy, but I hear stories like this all of the time.

It’s actually scary. I went home early today because I have to manage recess and lunch for a monstrous and horribly behaved classroom by MYSELF (I’m a paraprofessional-tutor) I had thrown away materials and games, verbal abuse, fights, etc. and what really pissed me off was that one of the kids grabbed me from behind. He’s supposed to have a one on one. Not only does he not have a one on one but I’m responsible for him during the lunch and recess duty along with this class. And I’m NOT a SECA. This is only my second year in and I’m horrified. But I’m stuck….trying to finish college and being there is my best shot.

The teacher should file a law suit against the county n should still report it to the police n continue to do so until he is heard. Can we start a petition to press charges to the student n hold the school accountable?

I’m curious as to what the students parents had to say. I have a senior in high school and from the very beginning we have taught him to always respect his teachers. Whether he likes them or not.

This breaks my heart. I have 1st graders rolling their eyes at me regardless of the fact that I give them unconditional love and patience. I want to fix the world. I just don’t know how.

Update: Spoke with a student who was in the classroom and witness the entire assault!!

GOODING is a nice man and is genuinely nice to students.

Much like Mr. Gooding's account the student eye witness said this...

No one was really talking and students were suppose to be working. Mr. GOODING was telling a student o put her phone away and get to work. All of a sudden the male student stood up and screamed "Shut the F up." He jumped up onto a chair and then hit Mr. GOODING over the head with his chrome book.

When Mr. GOODING fell to the ground he punched him and then walked out of class.

I then asked if there had ever been any other issues between

The two and according to the witness they had not seen or heard the two have any issues.

According to the witness the student just snapped.

As an administrative assistant at a high school, I am appalled at this. Sub teachers should be valued, respected and appreciated. I hope this gentleman pursues charges. Shame on that school. I just have no more words. So upsetting. And some wonder why the best teachers are leaving this profession.

@colleenscomfortcloset there’s A LOtT not happening. We aren’t teaching kids how to accept the challenges of life, we are giving into instant gratification, there’s no punishments anymore. There are no ramifications. He should still be able to press charges. He needs to.
