Adding to the shocking spate of school violence across the nation, a 74-year-old Indiana substitute teacher claims he suffered a gruesome black eye from a teen — and teachers stopped him being arrested.

Shellshocked Rob Gooding, of Indianapolis, told News 8 he was serving as a substitute at Perry Meridian High School on February 1 when an unruly student suddenly approached him during a business class.

The hulking teen — who Gooding claims stood over 6 feet — raised his Chromebook and was poised to crash it down on his head.

“I saw him come up, and he said, ‘I’ve had it,’ and he came down and I blocked the Chromebook. That’s where the hole was,” Gooding said, pointing to a wound on his forearm.

“This man child was 6-feet-2, 280 pounds,” he said.

But the student then shoved the elderly instructor to the ground in front of shocked students and rained down punches on his head.

“He hovered over me and with his left hand whammed me,” Gooding told the station.

Paramedics rushed to the scene and found the dazed teacher suffering from a grisly knot on his forehead and a deep black eye.

Gooding told a school resource officer who arrived with the emergency crews he wanted his assailant arrested and prosecuted.

But the officer told him school administrators forbade him from doing so.

“Then he said to me, ‘We have been instructed by the higher-ups, which is the district, not to handcuff, or arrest the kid,’ and I said, ‘What?’ and he said, ‘Yes, that came from the higher-ups,’” Gooding said.

School officials told News 8 that they were unable to comment on what, if any, disciplinary measures were taken against the teen.

“Perry Police responded to the incident quickly,” read a statement from the Perry Township School District. “A police report was forwarded to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. Prosecutors will then make a criminal charge decision.”

But weeks later Gooding said he hasn’t been contacted by any party concerning the case.

“He has to be accountable for his actions and that’s what I feel,” Gooding said.

Attacks on teachers by students have become increasingly common, with sometimes lethal consequences.

A beloved Texas teacher’s aide died this month after he was pushed to the ground and struck his head.

Fred Jimenez, 73, was buried this past Sunday after serving at a San Antonio High School for more than a decade.

His shattered wife of 25 years, Margo Jimenez, told The Post that school administrators downplayed the incident to her, never relaying that he had been pushed.

In another case recent case, a 15-year-old Ohio high school student allegedly punched a teacher in the head after hitting a vape — leaving her with a “severe brain injury” that required the removal of her skullcap.

Another one of these incidents??? I really don't want this to become "a thing"

The entire education system needs an overhaul

Teachers need to be paid a lot more, but also vetted (for predatory behavior especially)

More programs need to be endorsed to deal with problematic kids who are prone to violent impulses, mandatory therapy, anger management etc.,

AND PARENTS need to be responsible for unruly savage children like this. A fine or something. Hit them in the pockets, that will learn them quick.

Thanks

It is hilarious how y’all have whined on the internet about how “traumatizing” it was to grow up with boomer/gen x parents, and y’all are the shittiest, most shiftless generation of parents to ever exist. “I am not going to raise my offspring how I was raised,” and y’all are raising straight up hellions. You cannot even ignore it anymore because they are becoming plagues to society who bother everyone else. Everyone with sense is going to agree that they want a generation who is “traumatized” because of their parents telling them to stop being an asshole when they were adolescents than the generation of degenerates that y’all are raising. Y’all are not going to parent better, though. The only way that progress will happen is when the government begins to have the parents be civilly/criminally responsible for the actions of their Beelzebubs. Start giving the parents penalties, even criminal charges when the situation is way more severe, and the problem is going to reverse overnight

The oldest Millennials would be around 42 so it is possible. Gen X being the parents are completely believable as well. Regardless this is why no one wants to become a teacher. What is the point? You're over worked, underpaid, and risk being assaulted with no consequences.

This happened to me in that same city. I used to live there. A student threatened to kill me on more than one occasion and wasn’t suspended or disciplined in any way. I was told that there was too much red tape. I quit.

There is a Black woman superintendent there (not sure if she’s still there), but she is doing a horrible job. The schools are out of control and the students are not being disciplined.

A lot of people need to take a peek at the stories in the r/Teachers subreddit. Every single day, MULTIPLE teachers post about how violent students who spit at, slap, and kick teachers are coddled by the admins of the school because they're afraid of parent retaliation. A child will hit a teacher and the parents will say that the teacher must have done something to deserve it, and that nobody is allowed to discipline their child but them.

Sadly, there are children in schools that teachers are praying will be arrested in order to stop them from terrorizing faculty and students. I know a lot of well-meaning liberals will cry about the school to prison pipeline when I say that, but none of them have been in a classroom post-2020.

I'm sure it's higher than that in San Antonio especially if it's on the west side. Half of those white kids are probably "Latino" whites or even half.

Thanks

These kids are mentally ill and nobody is talking about it.

A huge percentage of people here on Planet Earf are mentally ill/disturbed and nobody is talking about it. Not just the kids. But the parents/guardians who are raising/raised them or the birth parents who created them. And the grandparents/guardians who raised the kid's parents/guardians. Then those same kids grow up and become parents/guardians themselves And it continues on and on and on. People need to realize this, recognize this and find a good way to address this. It will only continue if it isn't.

America is really becoming a trash country. From the politics to the economy, the school system, etc, the U.S. is looking very bad. But you can tell it's by design. TPTB want all the poor people living in hell while they enjoy their riches.

That's not really the norm tho. Younger millennials were not really popping them out in their early 20s like previous gens.

I often wondered what teachers meant by the administration not protecting them.

I'd still press charges. If they can't arrest his mentally unstable ass at the school, they can get him wherever he resides. Oh, and I'd sue the alleged 'higher-up.'

I'd have called the actual police and told the school officials they can get ready for a lawsuit.

They mention a "School officer"... so was this not a real cop? There's a difference between a security guard and an actual school resource officer. The latter doesn't take orders from principals, while the former aren't police and so can't actually arrest anyone.

Click to expand...I can’t get over how sh!t the parenting of kids is these days. One things after another. There was a news report this morning in my country about how teachers are now having to help potty train 5 year olds! And in a poll a large percentage of the parents thought that potty training wasn’t solely their responsibility. fµck!ng madness.

Thanks
