Part of the problem is because the CEO was so careless about the whole thing. That's why some people decided they wouldn't go. It was obvious that the risks enormously high.

These five people are not ignorant people. From what I gather, they were all highly intelligent, and very capable of understanding, risk and benefits of activities in their lives. God rest their souls and get their families, the strength to handle this burden

Your first statement is 100% correct. However, your second point not so much. “Some people” didn’t decide to go due to risk - it was cost prohibitive. That being said, even those with the financial means would have weighed the risks involved. As with any extreme “adventure” you assume the risks and...See more

Listen, I feel bad for the families.  I especially feel bad for the kid that didn't even want to go.  The rest of them I equate to the person that had to take one more step closer to the edge of the cliff for the ultimate selfie.  It didn't have to happen.

I sympathize with the 19 year young man. By all accounts he didn’t want to go but felt heavily pressured by his father and because the trip was to celebrate Father’s Day.

In today's world empathy is viewed as a sign of weakness. There are no leaders who demonstrate empathy and make it OK to be empathetic. At work, micro-controlling behavioral styles are typically the ones promoted to higher paying jobs. Emotion is typically not tolerated in the work place or in sports. Let's not blame social media for exacerbating behaviors that were already present and rewarded in today's society. It's like blaming a gun for a shooting.

That’s your opinion.

Empathy actually is a sign of strength.

The past didn’t have much empathy either

True….Empathy denotes selflessness, a caring, understanding….love in its true sense. A politician who is ambitious is not selfless. As the nature of ambition is selfish.

That's a good analogy of how things are.  Sad to see it this way.
